ग्रामीण चूहा और शहरी चूहा — The Country Mouse and the Town Mouse

एक ग्रामीण चूहा था। वह खेत में रहता था। एक शहरी चूहा उसका मित्र था। वह शहर में रहता था। एक दिन ग्रामीण चूहे ने शहरी चूहे को खाने पर निमंत्रित किया। उसने अपने शहरी मेहमान को मीठे-मीठे बेर, मूंगफली के दाने तथा कंदमूल खाने को दिए। पर शहरी चूहे को गाँव का सादा भोजन पसंद नहीं आया। उसने ग्रामीण चूहे से कहा, "भाई! सच्ची बात कहूँ तो तुम्हारा यह देशी खाना मुझे पसंद नहीं आया। यह तो बड़ा घटिया किस्म का खाना है। इसमें कोई स्वाद भी नहीं है। तुम मेरे घर चलो, तो तुम्हें पता चलेगा कि बढ़िया खाना कैसा होता है!"

ग्रामीण चूहे ने शहरी चूहे का आमंत्रण स्वीकार कर लिया। एक दिन वह शहर गया। उसके शहरी मित्र ने उसे अंजीर, खजूर, शहद, बिस्कुट, पावरोटी, मुरब्बा आदि खाने को दिया। भोजन बड़ा स्वादिष्ट था।

लेकिन शहर में वे दोनों चैन से भोजन नहीं कर पाए। वहाँ बार-बार एक बिल्ली आ जाती और चूहों को अपनी जान बचाने के लिये भागना पड़ता था। शहरी चूहे का बिल भी बहुत छोटा और सँकरा था।

"कितना दुखी जीवन है तुम्हारा, भाई?" ग्रामीण चूहे ने शहरी चूहे से कहा, "मैं तो घर लौट जाता हूँ। वहाँ मैं कम से कम शांतिपूर्वक खाना तो खा सकता हूँ।" खेत में अपने स्थान पर वापस लौटने पर ग्रामीण चूहे को बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई।

शिक्षा — शांति और निर्भयता में ही सच्चा सुख है। (True happiness lies in peace and freedom from fear.)

11	"तुम मेरे घर चलो, तो तुम्हें पता चलेगा कि बढ़िया खाना कैसा होता है!"	"Come to my house, and you will find out what good food is like!"
12	ग्रामीण चूहे ने शहरी चूहे का आमंत्रण स्वीकार कर लिया।	The country mouse accepted the city mouse's invitation.
13	एक दिन वह शहर गया।	One day, he went to the city.
14	उसके शहरी मित्र ने उसे अंजीर, खजूर, शहद, बिस्कुट, पावरोटी, मुरब्बा आदि खाने को दिया।	His city friend gave him figs, dates, honey, biscuits, bread, jam, and so on to eat.
15	भोजन बड़ा स्वादिष्ट था।	The food was very delicious.
16	लेकिन शहर में वे दोनों चैन से भोजन नहीं कर पाए।	But in the city, the two of them could not eat in peace.
17	वहाँ बार-बार एक बिल्ली आ जाती और चूहों को अपनी जान बचाने के लिये भागना पड़ता था।	A cat kept coming there again and again, and the mice had to run to save their lives.
18	शहरी चूहे का बिल भी बहुत छोटा और सँकरा था।	The city mouse's hole was also very small and narrow.
19	"कितना दुखी जीवन है तुम्हारा, भाई?"	"How miserable your life is, brother!"
20	ग्रामीण चूहे ने शहरी चूहे से कहा, "मैं तो घर लौट जाता हूँ।"	The country mouse said to the city mouse, "I am going back home."

22	खेत में अपने स्थान पर वापस लौटने पर ग्रामीण चूहे को बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई।	The country mouse felt great happiness on returning to his own place in the field.
23	शिक्षा — शांति और निर्भयता में ही सच्चा सुख है।	Moral — True happiness lies only in peace and fearlessness.
