लालची कुत्ता — The Greedy Dog
एक बार एक कुत्ते को हड्डी का एक टुकड़ा मिल गया। उसे अपने मुँह मे दबाकर वह एक कोने में जा बैठा। वह थोड़ी देर तक उस हड्डी के टुकड़े को चूसता रहा। बाद में थककर वहीं सो गया। जब उसकी नींद खुली तो उसे जोरों की प्यास लगी। मुँह मे हड्डी का टुकड़ा दबाए वह पानी की खोज में चल पड़ा।
वह एक नदी के किनारे गया। पानी पीने के लिये वह झुका, तो उसे पानी में अपनी ही छाया दिखाई दी। उसे लगा, नदी में कोई दूसरा कुत्ता है। उस कुत्ते के मुँह मे भी हड्डी का टुकड़ा है। कुत्ते के मन में इस हड्डी के टुकड़े को हथिया लेने का विचार आया। उसने गुस्से में आकर जैसे ही भौंकने के लिये मुँह खोला, तो उसके मुँह से हड्डी का टुकड़ा नदी मे जा गिरा। लालच में उसने अपने मुँह की हड्डी भी गँवा दी।
शिक्षा — लालच का फल बुरा होता है।
