साहूकार का बटुआ — The Moneylender's Purse
एक बार एक ग्रामीण साहूकार का बटुआ खो गया। उसने घोषणा की कि जो भी उसका बटुआ लौटाएगा, उसे सौ रूपए का इनाम दिया जाएगा। बटुआ एक गरीब किसान के हाथ लगा था। उसमें एक हजार रूपए थे। किसान बहुत ईमानदार था। उसने साहूकार के पास जाकर बटुआ उसे लौटा दिया।
साहूकार ने बटुआ खोलकर पैसे गिने। उसमे पूरे एक हजार रूपये थे। अब किसान को इनाम के सौ रूपए देने मे साहूकार आगापीछा करने लगा। उसने किसान से कहा, "वाह! तू तो बड़ा होशियार निकला! इनाम की रकम तूने पहले ही निकाल ली।"
यह सुनकर किसान को बहुत गुस्सा आया। उसने साहूकार से पूछा, "सेठजी, आप कहना क्या चाहते हैं?"
साहूकार ने कहा, "मैं क्या कह रहा हूँ, तुम अच्छी तरह जानते हो। इस बटुए में ग्यारह सौ रूपए थे। पर अब इसमें केवल एक हजार रूपये ही हैं। इसका अर्थ यह हुआ कि इनाम के सौ रूपए तुमने इसमें से पहले ही निकाल लिये हैं।"
किसान ने कहा, "मैंने तुम्हारे बटुए में से एक पैसा भी नहीं निकाला है। चलो, सरपंच के पास चलते हैं, वहीं फैसला हो जाएगा।"
फिर वे दोनों सरपंच के पास गए। सरपंच ने उन दोनों की बातें सुनीं। उसे यह समझते देर नहीं लगी कि साहूकार बेईमानी कर रहा है।
सरपंच ने साहूकार से कहा, "आपको पूरा यकीन है कि बटुए में ग्यारह सौ रूपए थे?"
साहूकार ने कहा, "हाँ हाँ, मुझे पूरा यकीन है।"
सरपंच ने जवाब दिया, "तो फिर यह बटुआ आपका नहीं है।"
और सरपंच ने बटुआ उस गरीब किसान को दे दिया।
शिक्षा — झूठ बोलने की भारी सजा भुगतनी पड़ती है। (The punishment for lying is severe.)
