चतुर बीरबल — Clever Birbal

Birbal cleverly solving the theft mystery of the pearl purse

एक दिन अमीर आदमी बीरबल के पास आया। उसने बीरबल से कहा, "मेरे यहाँ सात नौकर हैं। उनमे से किसी ने मोतियो से भरा मेरा बटुआ चुरा लिया है। कृपया आप मेरी मदद कीजिए। और उस चोर को खोज निकालिए।"

बीरबल उस अमीर के घर गए। उन्होने सातो नौकरो को एक कमरे मे बुलाकर कहा, "देखो! मेरे पास सात जादुई छड़ियाँ है। इस समय इन सभी छड़ियो की लम्बाई समान है। मैं तुममे से हर एक को एक एक छड़ी देता हूँ। तुममे से जिसने चोरी की होगी उसकी छड़ी बढ़ जाएगी।"

जिस नौकर ने बटुआ चुराया था वह बीरबल की बात सुनकर बहुत भयभीत हो गया। उसने सोचा, "मैं अपनी छड़ी काटकर एक इंच छोटी कर देता हूँ। तो बच जाऊँगा!" अंत में उसने अपनी छड़ी काटकर एक इंच छोटी कर दी।

अगले दिन बीरबल ने एक एक कर सातो नौकरो की छड़ियाँ देखी। उनमे से एक की छड़ी एक इंच छोटी थी। बीरबल उसकी ओर उँगली से इशारा करते हुए बोले, "ये रहा चोर!" यह सुनते ही उस नौकर ने अपना अपराध स्वीकार किया। उसने मोतियों से भरा बटुआ अपने मालिक को लौटा दिया। फिर उसे जेल भेज दिया गया।

शिक्षा — A guilty conscience always gives itself away. Fear of being caught is itself the proof of guilt.

1	एक दिन अमीर आदमी बीरबल के पास आया।	One day, a rich man came to Birbal.
2	उसने बीरबल से कहा, "मेरे यहाँ सात नौकर हैं।	He said to Birbal, "I have seven servants.
3	उनमे से किसी ने मोतियो से भरा मेरा बटुआ चुरा लिया है।	One of them has stolen my purse full of pearls.
4	कृपया आप मेरी मदद कीजिए।	Please help me.
5	और उस चोर को खोज निकालिए।"	And find out that thief."
6	बीरबल उस अमीर के घर गए।	Birbal went to the rich man's house.
7	उन्होने सातो नौकरो को एक कमरे मे बुलाकर कहा,	He called all seven servants into a room and said,
8	"देखो! मेरे पास सात जादुई छड़ियाँ है।	"Look! I have seven magical sticks.
9	इस समय इन सभी छड़ियो की लम्बाई समान है।	Right now, all these sticks are of equal length.
10	मैं तुममे से हर एक को एक एक छड़ी देता हूँ।	I will give each one of you a stick.
11	तुममे से जिसने चोरी की होगी उसकी छड़ी बढ़ जाएगी।"	The stick of whoever among you has stolen will grow longer."
12	जिस नौकर ने बटुआ चुराया था वह बीरबल की बात सुनकर बहुत भयभीत हो गया।	The servant who had stolen the purse became very frightened upon hearing Birbal's words.
13	उसने सोचा, "मैं अपनी छड़ी काटकर एक इंच छोटी कर देता हूँ।	He thought, "I will cut my stick and make it one inch shorter.
14	तो बच जाऊँगा!"	Then I will be saved!"
15	अंत में उसने अपनी छड़ी काटकर एक इंच छोटी कर दी।	In the end, he cut his stick and made it one inch shorter.
16	अगले दिन बीरबल ने एक एक कर सातो नौकरो की छड़ियाँ देखी।	The next day, Birbal examined the sticks of all seven servants one by one.
17	उनमे से एक की छड़ी एक इंच छोटी थी।	One of them had a stick that was one inch shorter.
18	बीरबल उसकी ओर उँगली से इशारा करते हुए बोले, "ये रहा चोर!"	Birbal pointed at him with his finger and said, "Here is the thief!"
19	यह सुनते ही उस नौकर ने अपना अपराध स्वीकार किया।	Upon hearing this, the servant confessed his crime.
20	उसने मोतियों से भरा बटुआ अपने मालिक को लौटा दिया।	He returned the purse full of pearls to his master.
21	फिर उसे जेल भेज दिया गया।	Then he was sent to jail.
